NEW YORK (AP) — Pitching coach Dave Eiland has rejoined the Yankees after taking nearly a month off to attend to what he described as a personal private matter.

Eiland says he was able to keep up with the Yankees while he was away. Starter A.J. Burnett in particular seemed to struggle, losing all five starts since Eiland left June 4.

The Yankees’ third-year pitching coach said he noticed something Burnett was doing that may have been contributing to his struggles, but declined to mention it, saying he wanted to broach the subject with the pitcher first.

Eiland wouldn’t elaborate on the reasons for his leave, but said it was something that everyone goes through.
