PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — New York Mets ace Johan Santana has completed the last big test before pitching in a game.

Santana threw 40 pitches on Thursday at spring training camp. It’s the first time he’s pitched to batters since having surgery on his left elbow late last season.

Santana is scheduled to make his first start of the exhibition season on Tuesday against Houston in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
