PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon AFL-CIO has endorsed John Kitzhaber’s campaign for governor, giving him the largest labor endorsement yet.

The Oregon AFL-CIO, which represents more than 225,000 Oregonians, announced its choice Friday.

Kitzhaber is a former two-term governor. So far Kitzhaber has won every union endorsement in his race against Bill Bradbury for the Democratic nomination in the May primary election. Among Kitzhaber’s supporters are the Oregon State Building and Construction Trades Council and the Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters.

The two candidates still are vying for the endorsement of the state’s powerful public employee unions, which are expected to make their choices soon.
