An 8-year-old boy was hurt Saturday morning when he fell while riding on the back bumper of a moving vehicle in a rural neighborhood east of Battle Ground.

Brandon Lee was briefly knocked unconscious when he fell from the back of his father’s Ford Escort wagon in the 22500 block of 216th Circle, a private road in a vacant gated development north of Hockinson, said Clark County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chuck Christensen.

The boy’s father, 32-year-old Jeremy Lee of Battle Ground, didn’t have a cell phone with him and took his son back to their home to summon help, Christensen said.

Crews from Fire District 3 responded, and the boy was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. He was reported in fair condition Saturday evening.

Christensen said Brandon and two other boys had been standing on the back bumper of the Escort, holding on to a roof rack, as Jeremy Lee drove very slowly when the accident occurred.

Christensen said no citations were issued, though the incident report was submitted for review for possible charges.
