AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Dana Vollmer won the 200-meter butterfly and the 100 freestyle at the Austin Grand Prix on Saturday, while Olympian Rebecca Soni won the 200 breaststroke with the fastest time in the world this year.
Vollmer, who failed to make the 2008 U.S. Olympic team, held off Olympian Natalie Coughlin and Jessica Hardy to win the 100 free in 54.30 seconds. Coughlin touched in 54.71 and Hardy finished in 54.74.
In the 200 fly, Vollmer took the lead halfway through and finished in 2 minutes, 13.86 seconds on the final night of the meet.
Soni’s time of 2:22.91 in winning the 200 breast was more than three seconds better than the fastest time in the event this year. She defeated Olympian Megan Jendrick.
