More Lewis-McChord soldiers head for Afghanistan

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — About 600 soldiers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord are preparing to deploy to Afghanistan.

The 864th Engineer Battalion is holding a departure ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday to case its colors.

The Army says the soldiers will maintain roads and lines of communication for combat outposts in Kandahar.
