Liverpool beats Portsmouth 4-1 in Premier League

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Fernando Torres scored twice to lead Liverpool over Portsmouth 4-1 in the Premier League on Monday night, keep alive the Reds’ hopes to qualify for next season’s European Champions League.

Torres scored in the 26th and 77th minutes at Anfield, and Liverpool also got goals from Ryan Babel in the 28th and Alberto Aquilani’s first for the club in the 32nd.

With his first multigoal game since Sept. 26, Torres raised his season total to 15 goals, all in the Premier League. He is tied with Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez for fifth, trailing Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney (26), Chelsea’s Didier Drogba (21), Sunderland’s Darren Bent (18) and Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe (17).
