BRUSSELS (AP) — Greek government spokesman Giorgos Petalotis says eurozone nations will hold a summit Thursday to ratify a rescue plan for Greece.

Petalotis says a meeting of European Union leaders will break up at 1830 GMT (7:30 p.m.) for separate eurozone talks “in order to ratify this mechanism” drafted by France and Germany.

Two diplomats speaking on condition of anonymity say the countries want a joint loan package totaling some 22 billion from eurozone nations and the International Monetary Fund if Greece can no longer borrow from financial markets.

The European Central Bank also backs the plan, one said.

Petalotis said Greece was “satisfied” with the program.
