PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Shady Cove man burned last month when he used gasoline to ignite a pile of yard debris has been upgraded from critical to good condition at the Oregon Burn Center in Portland.

Robert Jacoby suffered second- and third-degree burns over 75 percent of his body.

His aunt told the Mail Tribune newspaper that the 24-year-old spent weeks on a ventilator and endured six painful skin-grafting surgeries.

Meanwhile, a 55-year-old Medford man injured in a similar fashion remains in critical condition at the Portland hospital. Police say Randy Young accidentally splashed himself with gasoline while trying to burn yard debris on Feb. 13.

He suffered second-degree burns over about 45 percent of his body, including his hands, face, chest and upper legs.
