Watch for thunderstorms and hail as big as a half-inch, forecasters warn.

Doppler radar tracked a strong storm cell migrating northeast from the area of Newberg, Ore., around 11:30 a.m. today. Forecasters with the National Weather Service issued a warning for showery and blustery conditions through Tuesday.

“We’re going to be into the showery mode through the rest of the day and also through Tuesday as well,” said Scott Weishar, a forecaster with the weather service in Portland. “There’ll still be a threat of some small hail and lightning through at least Tuesday.”

Nearly half an inch of rain had fallen in Vancouver since midnight, according to the weather service’s official station at Pearson Field.

Rain and blustery conditions are on tap through the rest of the week, which happens to coincide with spring break for Southwest Washington students.
