Stock futures rise, point to higher opening

NEW YORK (AP) — Stock futures are rising after two big airlines agreed to combine and a pair of economic reports are expected to show further growth.

United and Continental airlines agreed on a combination Monday that would form the world’s biggest airline.

Asian markets slumped after China forced banks to increase reserves. European markets dipped as investors remain skittish about whether Greece will be able to get debt problems under control.

Reports on manufacturing and personal spending are both expected to show growth.

Dow Jones industrial average futures are up 23, or 0.2 percent, at 10,983. Standard & Poor’s 500 index futures are up 3.90, or 0.3 percent, at 1,187.30, while Nasdaq 100 index futures are up 5.00, or 0.3 percent, at 2,003.50.
