COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) — A 33-year-old man accused of killing his mother and her boyfriend has pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated murder.

Gabriel Morris told a Coos County, Ore., judge on Thursday that he couldn’t afford a lawyer. Corvallis attorney Peter Fahy will represent him, as will another lawyer with death penalty experience.

Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier says he hasn’t yet decided whether to seek the death penalty in the case. Morris is charged in the Feb. 8 deaths of Robin Anstey and Robert Kennelly near Bandon.

Morris is held on $5 million bail. He was returned to Coos County on Wednesday after more than two months in jail in Virginia, where he was captured in late February.
