Woodland Schools were placed under a modified lockdown at 12:10 today, citing a “potential intruder on campus,” according to a bulletin on the district’s website.

The lockdown was in effect for 50 minutes, the district said in a press release.

The press release said: “Woodland School District initiated a lockdown of all its facilities at approximately 12:10 p.m. Thursday, May 6, to prevent a suspicious individual seen on school grounds from entering any building.

Police were notified immediately to determine if the individual posed a threat. The lockdown lasted approximately 50 minutes, at which time the police informed the district that the lockdown could be modified to a limited lockdown.”

The release continued: “The safety of our students is our top priority,” said Superintendent Michael Green. “We lock down all buildings to prevent any unauthorized individuals from accessing our schools.”

The release concluded: “A lockdown is defined as a situation where students are kept within their classrooms or in the interior of the building until the emergency no longer exists. School operates as usual, with the exception of recesses being held indoors.”

Included in the lockdown were the Woodland Primary, Intermediate, Middle and High schools, as well as TEAM High.
