ROME (AP) — One of the people convicted in the 2007 slaying of British student Meredith Kercher has appealed to Italy’s highest criminal court.

An appeals court in December upheld a lower court’s murder conviction of Rudy Hermann Guede (GWAY’-day) and sentenced him to 16 years in prison.

Former University of Washington student Amanda Knox of Seattle and Knox’s former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito (rah-fy-EHL’-ay soh-LEH’-chee-toh) also were convicted of murder. Knox received a 26year prison sentence; Sollecito, 25. They deny wrongdoing.

Guede’s lawyer Nicodemo Gentile said Friday that no date for his appeal has been set before the Court of Cassation. Guede admitted being in the house the night of the murder but denied killing Kercher.
