EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A Eugene man faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to money laundering.
Michael James Walsh acknowledged in U.S. District Court on Thursday that he made dozens of bank deposits and withdrawals in an attempt to conceal nearly $500,000 in proceeds from marijuana and hallucinogenic mushroom sales.
The investigation began in 2008 when a bank employee told Eugene police that a man reeking of fertilizer made several large cash transactions a week. According to court records, the stench caused customer complaints and made one teller vomit.
The Register-Guard reports the 36-year-old Walsh is scheduled to be sentenced July 13.
