ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Chuck Greenberg, whose group is trying to buy the Texas Rangers, is in the front row.
Greenberg took in the Rangers game Friday night, spending at least part of it in the field-level owner’s box with Tom Hicks, whose financially strapped Hicks Sports Group is selling the team.
The two sides went into exclusive negotiations in mid-December and announced an agreement Jan. 23. But the transfer of ownership has been complicated by the significant debt owed by Hicks Sports Group and creditors trying to recoup as much money as possible.
Hicks Sports Group is also working to sell his NHL team, the Dallas Stars. Separately, Hicks and George Gillette Jr. are searching for a buyer for Liverpool, the Premier League soccer club they co-own under a separate entity.
