WHEELER, Ore. (AP) — A pharmacy on the Oregon coast is being forced to close after one of its employees was arrested on drug charges.

The Wheeler Pharmacy just south of Manzanita has been operated by pharmacist Jeff Collett since 1973.

The 70-year-old Collett and his pharmacy have become an institution in the area, filling prescriptions and also offering up chocolates, T-shirts, watches, even wedding albums.

But federal agents recently found thousands of methadone and oxycodone pills missing, leading to the arrest of 57-year-old Florence West, a pharmacy technician.

West claims they were given to customers who lost or accidentally destroyed their prescriptions. So far, there’s no indication she took any money for the drugs.
