PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Former Gov. John Kitzhaber is not apologizing for calling Oregon “ungovernable” when he closed out his second term at the beginning of the decade.
Now that he’s seeking an unprecedented third term as governor after eight years out of office, Kitzhaber is taking criticism from Republicans who are calling attention to his old comment.
But the doctor turned politician has responded by saying he believes it’s still true so it’s time for somebody with his experience to try and fix problems before Oregon falls into political and economic gridlock.
Kitzhaber told The Associated Press in a recent interview the next two years will determine whether the state can find ways to solve its political and fiscal problems.
