NEW YORK (AP) — Amir Khan has arrived in the United States ready to become a star.

Already mobbed everywhere he goes in England, the junior welterweight champion fights Paul Malignaggi on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. It will be Khan’s first fight in the U.S. and one that he hopes will send him to the next level of popularity.

The 22-year-old former Olympian has won four straight fights since a stunning loss to Breidis Prescott in September 2008, including a victory over Andriy Kotelnik to win the WBA belt.

His last fight came in December, when Khan knocked out Dmitriy Salita in 76 seconds.

Malignaggi should represent his most difficult test. He’s a former titleholder and has been in the ring with some of the best fighters in the world.
