TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — One-time Super Bowl most valuable player Doug Williams says he’s leaving the front office of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to pursue “new options.”

A former Bucs quarterback who later led the Washington Redskins to a Super Bowl championship, Williams served as Tampa Bay’s director of pro personnel during last season’s 3-13 finish.

Williams said in a team statement Tuesday that he met with general manager Mark Dominik about his future and “after a lot of thought” decided it was time to move on.

A first-round draft pick in 1978, Williams led Tampa Bay to the playoffs three times in five seasons. After a brief stint in the USFL, he played with the Redskins from 1986-89.

He rejoined the Bucs as a personnel assistant in 2004.
