PHOENIX (AP) — The Phoenix Mercury waived forward Ashley Paris and rookie guard-forward Nyeshia Stevenson on Tuesday, lowering their roster to 13 players.

Stevenson, who helped lead Oklahoma to this year’s Final Four, was drafted by Phoenix in the third round at No. 36 overall on April 8.

Paris, also out of Oklahoma, was signed to a training camp contract on Feb. 26 after she was released by the Los Angeles Sparks last June.

The defending champion Mercury open their season Saturday at home against the Sparks.
