SEATTLE (AP) — Whale experts trying to free a juvenile humpback tangled in crab pot lines off the Washington coast say it appears to be willing to accept the help.

The team working out of La Push was able to remove some line Thursday but said rough water forced it to try again Friday to cut the line from a flipper.

The rescue team is led Olympia-based Cascadia Research Collective. Its research biologist John Calambokidis (cal-um-BOH’-kee-dihs) says the whale appears to be in good condition and cooperative.

A fisherman reported the whale Wednesday about eight miles southwest of Destruction Island entangled in crab pot gear with two orange floats attached.
