PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The father of one of two women killed when they were hit by a bus on a downtown Portland crosswalk says a grand jury has declined to file any criminal charges against the driver.

Robert Hammel, the father of 26-year-old Jenee Hammel of Gresham, called the Multnomah County grand jury’s decision on Wednesday “unbelievable” and “ridiculuous.”

The TriMet bus driven by 48-year-old Sandi Day struck five people on the crosswalk in late April, killing Hammel and 22-year-old Danielle Sale. Three other people were injured.

The Multnomah County district attorney’s office was expected to make a statement on the case.

TriMet is the largest transit agency in the state and has already begun to change some routes and eliminate some difficult turns downtown.
