EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A Christmas Valley, Ore., man has been indicted by a Lane County grand jury in the March traffic death of a commercial truck driver killed when several large bales of hay fell off a passing big rig.

Oregon State Police arrested 43-year-old Bonnie Puckett on Monday. He’s charged with criminally negligent homicide and felony failure to perform the duties of a driver involved in a crash.

Puckett was booked into the Lane County Jail.

On March 4, investigators say several 1,000-pound hay bales fell off a westbound hay rig Puckett was driving on Oregon Highway 58 and struck an eastbound truck driven by 37-year-old Gregory Muller of Sparks, Nev. The impact demolished Muller’s truck cab and killed him.

The hay truck did not stop.
