EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — U.S. Soccer youth technical director Claudio Reyna has outlined a national curriculum for developing players through all levels of American soccer.
A former national team captain, Reyna says the most important element of improving U.S. soccer is “to have a plan and a direction.” The curriculum “will provide the vision to the coaches” to achieve that goal.
Reyna spoke to a group of youth coaches Tuesday before the U.S. team played the Czech Republic in a warmup game for the World Cup. He stressed that a nationwide plan for developing talent would eventually boost U.S. fortunes throughout the sport, from youth teams through high school, college and the pros.
