Volunteer search and rescue teams can learn and refine their abilities at a conference later this month in Stevenson, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

The annual Washington State Search and Rescue Conference is scheduled May 21 through 23 at the Skamania County Fairgrounds. The event is hosted by Wind River Search and Rescue, Pacific Crest Search Dogs, Skamania County Emergency Management and the Skamania County Sheriff’s Dive Rescue Team.

The conference is made up of more than 75 classes with topics including map and compass training, K-9 education and using horses during search and rescue efforts. Vendors will display the latest innovations in search and rescue equipment.

The conference is open to teams or individuals interested in learning about search and rescue operations. It costs $75, which included meals for the three-day event. There is no cost to camp on-site.
