Prep roundup: La Center girls take lead at 1A track

The La Center girls had three athletes place in the pole vault, giving the Wildcats the early lead in the 1A team standings at the Class 1A/2B/1B state track and field meet in Cheney.

Hannah Trigg and Lauren Baker tied for third place in the pole vault, both clearing 9 feet, 6 inches. La Center’s Natalia Harris placed seventh at 9-0.

Meagan Governor was fourth in the 3,200 meters (11:52.11) and Amanda Blankenship 11:54.36) was fifth, while Katrina Chamberlain was fifth in the shot put (36-5), giving La Center 25 team points, nine ahead of second-place Naches Valley.

King’s Way Christian’s Carina Hall placed seventh in the 1B girls high jump at 4-2.

In the 1A boys meet, Stevenson’s Austin McCrum placed fifth in the high jump at 6-0. McCrum’s best event, the pole vault, will be contested today.

Seton Catholic’s Evan Simms was sixth in the 1B 1,600 meters in 5:05.57.

2A state softball

Woodland won two games at the Class 2A state softball tournament at Carlton Park in Selah, advancing to the semifinals.

The Beavers defeated Ellensburg, 7-0, in the first round then beat Blaine, 12-2, in the quarterfinals. They will face Hoquiam in today’s semifinals. The Grizzlies beat Granite Falls, 13-3, and Othello, 5-4.

W.F. West of Chehalis faces Colville in the other semifinal. Both games are at 10 a.m.

Woodland would advance to the state title game at 2 p.m. with a win, or fall to the consolation semifinals at noon. The third-place game is at 2:30 p.m.

No other information about Woodland’s games Friday was available.
