CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — A group in Corvallis calling itself “Unlike Minds” is working to bring back polite debate over politics.

The Gazette-Times reports the group works to bridge the gap between voters increasingly divided into warring camps of red or blue, Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal.

The Oregon group in Corvallis is following examples set by other groups, including the online forum called “Civil Discourse” launched in 2000 by writer Joe McQuade, and “Conversation Cafe,” organized by financial author Vicki Robin.

The effort to encourage polite discussion of politics has spread from its beginnings in Seattle to more than 70 cities in the United States, Canada and Europe.
