WASHINGTON (AP) — Trudi Lacey is the new general manager and head coach of the Washington Mystics, who switched both positions after the franchise’s most successful season.
Lacey’s new duties were announced Monday by owner Sheila Johnson, who said having one person do both jobs was a “business decision.”
Lacey joined the Mystics in 2009 as an assistant coach, then was promoted to director of basketball operations in 2010. She replaces Angela Taylor as GM, and Julie Plank as coach.
The Mystics went a franchise-best 22-12 in the 2010 regular season to finish with the top record in the Eastern Conference and earn a No. 1 seeding for the playoffs. They lost in the first round.
Lacey was the GM and coach of the Charlotte Sting from 2003-06.
