MILAN (AP) — Italy’s Giovanni Morzenti has been suspended from the International Ski Federation’s ruling council after being convicted of graft.
Morzenti was clinging to his job as president of the Italian Winter Sports Federation but informed the FIS council of the judicial proceedings against him. Morzenti himself suggested the suspension and has said he was appealing the verdict.
The ski governing body said in a statement Saturday that Morzenti acknowledged he had been convicted of extortion and provisionally suspended him from its ruling panel until the case was completed.
