Robert Morris wins 42-24, clinches playoff berth

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (AP) — Myles Russ carried 24 times for 177 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown, to lead Robert Morris over Central Connecticut State 42-24 on Saturday.

The Colonials (8-1, 7-0) earned the Northeast Conference’s berth in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.

Jeff Sinclair completed 10 of 18 passes for 143 yards for Robert Morris, including a 20-yard touchdown to T.J. Green for the game’s first score and a 14-yarder to Shadrae King to make it 14-3.

Gunnar Jespersen’s 8-yard pass to Chris Tolbert brought the Blue Devils (6-3, 5-1) within 14-10. Each team scored on its first two drives.

Robert Morris punted on its next possession, and it was downed at the 2-yard line. Central Connecticut State fumbled on the next play, setting up Jeff Link’s 1-yard TD run to make it 21-10 with 2:01 left in the first quarter.

Jespersen completed 14 of 22 for 283 yards and two touchdowns.
