BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — A 17-year-old volleyball player on her way to a tournament was killed when her vehicle was struck by another car Saturday morning in rural Whatcom County.

State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary says Kourtney Cadle died at the scene. He says her 1996 For Contour was stopped at an intersection when a 2002 Buick Century driving by a 42-year-old Maple Falls woman struck her from behind, pushing Cadle’s car onto the highway. A semi truck then struck Cadle’s car.

Cadle was a member of the Mount Baker High school girls volleyball team. Her mother had gone to the same tournament in Lynden in another vehicle and was waiting for her daughter to arrive.

Leary says troopers had to notify Cadle’s mother at the volleyball tournament.

The crash is under investigation.
