Massachusetts comes back to beat Rider 77-67

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — Anthony Gurley scored 31 points and Freddie Riley added 28 as Massachusetts overcame a 21-point halftime deficit to beat Rider 77-67 on Friday night in both teams’ season opener.

The Minutemen trailed 45-24 at halftime, but outscored the Broncs 53-22 in the second half en route to the victory.

Mike Ringgold scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the loss for Rider.

Massachusetts shot 26 of 55 (47.3 percent) from the field, including 9 of 20 (45 percent) from three-point range.

Gurley shot 12-for-20 (60 percent) from the floor and Riley made 10 of 15 (66.7 percent) shots, including 6 3-pointers.
