GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Jamar Abrams scored 16 points and Erin Straughn 12 as East Carolina led from start to finish in defeating Erskine 74-46 Friday night in the opener for both teams.
Leading 28-23 with 3:33 left in the first half, Abrams made three free throws and Straughn hit a 3-pointer to help the Pirates take a 36-25 halftime lead, which they widened throughout the second half.
East Carolina had a 40-24 rebounding advantage in its first game under former Auburn coach Jeff Lebo. The Flying Fleet has only one player taller than 6-foot-8, freshman Filip Chockolock, and he played just seven minutes.
Jontae Sherrod and Darrius Morrow added nine points apiece for East Carolina.
DeShaun Hall scored 15 points and Chris Gore 11 to pace Erskine, a Division II school.
