Chicago State staves off Concordia, Ill., 79-75

CHICAGO (AP) — Victor Scott scored 22 points to help Chicago State hold off Concordia, Ill., 79-75 Friday night.

The Cougars won their first game under new coach Tracy Dildy, who served three years as associated head coach at Illinois-Chicago.

Christian Wall added 18 points and Carl Montgomery 13 for Chicago State, which led 42-34 at halftime. Montgomery also had a game-best 16 rebounds.

Larrell Gary scored 17 points for Concordia, which outscored Chicago State 41-37 in the second half and trimmed the gap to 76-75 with 31 seconds left before Chicago State finished it off.

Chicago State shot 7 of 25 from 3-point range to 3 of 13 for Concordia, which held a 50-42 rebounding edge.

Chicago State won the only previous meeting between these schools 81-61 on Nov. 13, 2009.

Division III Concordia is favored to win the Northern Athletics Conference South Division title.
