FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Jeff Van Camp threw three touchdown passes and Florida Atlantic beat Louisiana-Lafayette 24-23 on Saturday night.

It was the third consecutive win for the Owls (4-5, 3-3 Sun Belt Conference) while Louisiana-Lafayette (2-8, 2-4) lost its sixth straight.

Trailing 24-17, Louisiana-Lafayette scored on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Blaine Gautier to Vernon Wolfe with 1:45 left. The Ragin’ Cajuns decided to eschew the tie attempt and go for the 2-point conversion, but Gautier’s roll-out pass attempt failed. The Owls recovered the onside kick to preserve the victory.

Van Camp finished 11 for 18 for 183 yards.

Gautier, a sophomore making his first start, went 21 for 36 for 254 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception. He also rushed for a touchdown.

Van Camp’s third TD pass, a 16-yard screen to Alfred Morris, gave the Owls a 21-7 lead in the third quarter.
