HEMPSTEAD. N. Y. (AP) — Charles Jenkins, last year’s Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, scored 26 points and Hofstra routed Farmingdale State 102-62 on Saturday in the season opener for both teams.
Four other Pride players scored in double figures — Shemiye McLendon had 16 points, Dwan McMillan scored 15, and Greg Washington and Mike Moore had 13 each in the debut of Hofstra coach Mo Cassara.
Jenkins made 10 of 13 field goal attempts and paced a torrid shooting effort for the Pride, which made 53.7 percent (36 of 67) of its field goal attempts.
Hofstra carried a 46-27 lead into halftime and led by at least 20 points for the final 16 minutes. The Pride got 24 points off 20 Farmingdale turnovers and won the battle on the boards 52-33.
Josh Smith scored 14 points to lead Farmingdale, an NCAA Division III school 15 minutes from the Hofstra campus.
