MACOMB, Ill. (AP) — Matt Lander had a career-high 22 points to lead four Western Illinois players in double figures Friday as the hot-shooting Leathernecks routed St. Francis, Ill., 83-47 to open their season.
Western Illinois (1-0) led 34-24 at halftime, but hit 15 of 20 shots in the final 20 minutes to blow the game open. St. Francis turned the ball over 26 times and shot only 33 percent from the field.
Lander had just five points at halftime, but hit 5 of 7 shots and 7 of 8 free throws in the second half. Ceola Clark III finished with 11 points, a career-high 10 assists and a team-high four steals.
Lukas Zebrauskas scored 13 points to lead the Fighting Saints (4-1).
