Long Island defeats Norfolk State 87-64

NEW YORK (AP) — Jamal Olasewere scored 17 points and three others scored in double figures as Long Island beat Norfolk State 87-64 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Kyle Johnson, Julian Boyd and Robinson Odoch Opong each added 10 points for the Blackbirds, which shot 53.7 percent (29-for-54) from the field.

The Blackbirds led by 14 points at halftime and held an advantage of at least 21 points for the final 11 minutes. Odoch Opong hit a 3-pointer with 2:18 to play to give the Blackbirds their largest lead of the game at 86-55.

The Spartans launched 24 three-pointers but made only six (25 percent) and had trouble closer to the basket, making only 27 of 77 field goal attempts (35.1 percent).

Rob Hampton led the Spartans with 14 points. Pendarvis Williams added 13 points, Kyle O’Quinn had 12 and Aleek Pauline scored 10.
