SAN DIEGO (AP) — Ken Rancifer scored 14 points and Darian Norris and Matt Dorr each had 13 as San Diego beat Occidental 83-66 Friday night in the season opener for both schools.
Rancifer was 5 for 5 from the field, and the Toreros pulled away in the first half by shooting 75 percent.
Kris Montoya led the Tigers with 21 points.
Division III Occidental led 24-21 with 9:59 to go in the first half when San Diego, sparked by Dennis Kramer’s 10 points, went on an 18-2 run to take a 39-26 lead.
Kramer, a 6-foot-10 freshman, hit 4 of 5 shots from the field, including both of his 3-pointers, during that five-minute run.
San Diego connected on 18 of its first 24 shots, including 7 of 10 3-pointers in the first half to build a 50-32 advantage. The Toreros shot 58.8 overall and led by 20 points on two occasions.
