Irish don’t need to hear about bowl game chances

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Brian Kelly has talked about taking Notre Dame to a bowl since his arrival last December. Of course, he’d hoped to lead the Irish to a BCS game.

That’s not going to happen with a 5-5 record and two games left, but the Irish can still earn a postseason trip with one victory in their final two games. And with that would come two more weeks of practice — an even bigger deal for a program still adjusting to its new coach.

After routing Utah 28-3 on Saturday — Notre Dame’s first win over a ranked team since 2006 after 11 straight losses in those matchups — the Irish do have another home game this week. Well, sort of. They’ll be the home team at Yankee Stadium against Army and its triple-option offense.
