McNeese State beats Texas State 36-6

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Bernardo Henry and Malcolm Bronson had long returns that helped McNeese State to a 36-6 win over Texas State on Saturday night.

The win kept the Cowboys (6-4, 5-1 Southland Conference) tied with Stephen F. Austin for the conference lead. McNeese plays Central Arkansas next Saturday, while Stephen F. Austin plays Northwestern State, which had been tied for first before losing 37-7 to Nicholls State.

Henry returned a kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown after Texas State (4-6, 1-5) pulled within three, 9-6. Four minutes later, Bronson returned an interception 74 yards for a touchdown and a 22-6 lead.

Jacob Bower had a hand in McNeese’s two third-quarter touchdowns, scoring on a 1-yard run and throwing a 6-yard pass to DeVio Edmondson.

Andre Anderson had 170 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries for McNeese. DaMarcus Griggs had nine receptions for 124 yards for Texas State.
