EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The official arrival of winter may be more than a month away, but it’s time to get an Oregon Sno-Park permit if you want to park and play.

The Sno-Park permit season runs from Nov. 1 until April 30 in Oregon, and the permit with the snowflake logo is required to park at about 100 winter recreation sites across the state.

The Register-Guard reports a La Nina (NEEN-yuh) weather pattern expected this winter means there could be a lot of snow in the mountains, and it could start piling up soon.

Forecasts have a cold but not very wet system coming in next weekend. Another one, possibly with more moisture, could arrive sometime over the long Thanksgiving weekend.

Oregon’s Sno-Park Program is funded entirely by the sale of Sno-Park permits.
