CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — Chaisson Allen hit one of two free throws with 2 seconds remaining in overtime to give Northeastern a 63-62 victory over Southern Illinois on Tuesday.

Allen was sent to the line when Southern Illinois’ Mamadou Seck was called for a technical foul following a tussle for the ball after a missed jumper by Chaisson with about 6 seconds left in OT.

Allen finished with 12 points, including all three of the Huskies’ points in overtime, and 10 rebounds. But he missed a free throw with 3 seconds left in regulation that could have won the game for the Huskies. He finished 1 of 3 from the line.

Joel Smith led Northeastern (2-0) with 19 points.

Southern Illinois’ Carlton Fay had hit a free throw with 23 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 60-60. Fay finished with nine points for the Salukis (0-2).

Gene Teague and John Freeman led Southern Illinois with 13 points apiece. Teague also pulled down 11 rebounds.
