Man found dead, boy injured near Mount Rainier

CARBONADO, Wash. (AP) — Pierce County searchers have found a man dead and a 4-year-old boy critically injured at an off-road vehicle park near Mount Rainier.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reports the boy has been airlifted to a hospital.

Sheriff’s deputies had been searching the area Tuesday for 44-year-old John Layton and his 4-year-old son.

Friends reported he had sent a text Monday that his pickup truck had flipped the near the Evans Creek Off Road Vehicle Park.

East Pierce Fire and Rescue reports the man was found inside a vehicle. The boy was taken to nearby Wilkeson Elementary School for the airlift.
