CINCINNATI (AP) — Former Ohio State kicker Aaron Pettrey (PET’-tree) was working part-time at a shop that sells Buckeyes gear in Columbus, stocking shelves and ringing up sales while waiting for some team to give him a chance.

It sure seemed like a long shot. Not even the Buckeyes fans who frequented the shop recognized him as a player.

When Mike Nugent, another former Ohio State kicker, tore a knee ligament last Sunday, the Cincinnati Bengals brought Pettrey in for a tryoutm then offered him the job.

He moved into Nugent’s locker on Wednesday and started getting ready to kick next Sunday against Buffalo in a game matching teams with a combined three wins.
