SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A man killed in a shootout with Spokane police last week had a history of mental illness and suicide attempts.

The Spokesman-Review reports that a 2008 report from Eastern State Hospital found that Ethan A. Corporon saw drug-induced images of aliens, dreamed of killing himself with a shotgun and had intense mood swings that made him dangerous.

The 29-year-old was killed after firing a shotgun at officers.
