NYON, Switzerland (AP) — UEFA says it has opened a disciplinary case against Croatia Football Association president Vlatko Markovic after he was reported saying he would exclude gay players from the national team.

UEFA says Markovic is being investigated under rules relating to discrimination and soccer officials’ conduct.

Article 11 of the European soccer authority’s disciplinary code calls for sanctions if someone “insults the human dignity of a person or group of persons.”

UEFA says its disciplinary panel will hear the case on Nov. 25.

Markovic played international soccer for Yugoslavia and coached the Croatia national team before becoming its federation president. He also serves on FIFA’s soccer committee.
