SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A Gonzaga University student was knocked out of her tennis shoes when she was hit by a van at an intersection near the campus in Spokane.

She was thrown into the windshield Tuesday and then fell to the pavement. She was taken to a hospital with a broken leg and head injuries.

KXLY reports that one car had stopped for the student, but when she stepped into the crosswalk she was hit by the van.
