Chattanooga rallies to beat Kennesaw State 73-69

KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) — DeAntre Jefferson had 16 points and 10 rebounds for his second career double-double to lead Chattanooga to a 73-69 win over Kennesaw State on Wednesday night.

The Mocs (1-2) won their first game of the season while the Owls (2-1), fresh off an upset 80-63 win over Georgia Tech, could not maintain their momentum.

After jumping out to an 8-0 advantage and leading 32-28 at halftime, Kennesaw State took only 18 shots from the field in the second half, making 10.

Chattanooga tied the game at 45 on a Josh Odem 3-pointer with 12:53 to go.

The game was tied seven more times, the last occasion at 69 with 1:41 to go on a 3-pointer by the Owls’ Spencer Dixon.

Jefferson scored on a layup 17 seconds later, then Odem, who had 14 points off the bench, hit two free throws with 5 seconds left.

Markeith Cummings led Kennesaw State with 26 points and hit 14 of 16 free throws.
